God Our Saviour: 8

Doctrine of the Cross

Regeneration

Regeneration is salvation

“the new birth” · “being born again”

It appears twice in Scripture (with two different meanings)

1)Matthew 19:28 cf. Romans 8:19; 2 Corinthians 5:1–4 — Glorification: the Body

1 Peter 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
2 Peter 1:13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

2)Titus 3:5 cf. Romans 8:15; 2 Corinthians 5:17

Regeneration (positional) is not a reformation or evolutionary process. It is, however, a SUPERNATURAL act of God.

Side note: the heresies

1)John 3:5, 6; Mark 16:16 “…believeth and is baptized…”

Notice: baptized isn’t after the semicolon. cf. (this is the opposite of) 1 Peter 3:21 — Noah’s Ark, a type of the Holy Spirit; the Flood, a type of the Word of God.

A)

“Born once, Die Twice” — (Flesh) Adamic

B)

“Born twice, Die Once” — (Spirit) Salvational reBirth

2)1 Peter 3:20–21 “…like figure…” equals Hebrews 10:1

New Bible translations quote 1 Peter 2:2 as “that ye may grow up to be saved” (works), as opposed to the KJV — “maturity.”

3)Acts 2:38 cf. Matthew 12:41; Luke 11:32 — THE heresy of “FOR vs. BECAUSE”

“For”
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
“Because”
Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
Luke 11:32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

The Nature of Regeneration (Two Fold)

Ephesians 5:26 “…washing…the word…” — (water = word) versus “Baptism” 1 Corinthians 1:14–17 (negative connotation)

  • a)Cleansing agent — Psalm 119:9 “thy word”; James 1:18 “of his own will” (also trinity)
  • b)John 15:3 “…are clean…” (present tense); 1 Peter 1:23

Imparting of the New Nature

1)Secure for eternity — “Born again…not of corruptible seed”

Genesis 1:26 cf. (free will — choice) 3:6; 5:3 “…likeness of Adam…”. New nature is Colossians 3:10 cf. Ephesians 4:23, 24; 1 Corinthians 2:10–14 “…no spirit…”; 2 Corinthians 5:17, 21; Ephesians 2:1; Romans 6:13; John 5:21, 22; Romans 8:1; John 3:18 (can’t die if believer); Romans 8:10 “…body is dead…” in God’s eyes cf. 1 John 3:9 cf. 1 Corinthians 15.

2)Instantaneous at the moment of salvation

Human Side (nature) — John 1:12

The nature of belief is human appropriation.

James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23; Romans 10:17; 1 Corinthians 4:15; Ephesians 2:8

Divine Side (nature) — John 1:13

What is the Gospel? 1 Corinthians 15:1–4 cf. Romans 4:25

Ephesians 1:7–14, v.13

  • 1)Hear the Gospel
  • 2)Trust it
  • 3)Believe it
  • 4)Sealed by his Holy Spirit
